Making over $9.5B with the magical movies, JK Rowling’s iconic Harry Potter ranks among the most successful franchises of all time. Acquiring a massive and undying fanbase, the movies also fashioned lifelong bonds between the actors, including Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint.

But despite their healthy friendship, the cast couldn’t escape occasional controversies and dramatic moments between them. Take the example of Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe’s controversial kiss in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 – the actor later called out Watson for her “vigorous” kiss, during an interview.
Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe’s Controversial Kiss
The Harry Potter movies not only brought JK Rowling‘s Wizarding World into cinematic reality, but the films also offered three incredible actors, whom fans love to the end of the earth. While the films narrated a tale of friendship, love, and tragedy which gradually transitioned into dark reality with each passing movie, the franchise also shared some joyous moments and scenes of love.
Taking into account the aspect of love that was brilliantly portrayed throughout the film series, the Harry Potter movies showcased a number of kisses, among which a few stood out to be the best. But, meanwhile, there were also a few smooches that were called out to be controversial because of their intensity and scenes.

Apparently, the nude scene followed by vigorous kissing between Harry and Hermione in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, is what turned controversial for the franchise. According to Screen Rant, although the scene was actually a part of Ron Weasley’s vision induced by Voldemort’s Horcrux, the s*xual connotations were still a bit too much for the franchise that posed for both adult and young audiences.

However, while the kiss between Daniel Radcliffe‘s Harry and Emma Watson’s Hermione became controversial for the Harry Potter franchise, the actors had their own comments surrounding the scene. While fans would any day kill to be in Radcliffe’s shoes, just to kiss Watson, the actor seemingly hated the experience.
Speaking with Daybreak Morning Show (via ExpressUK) Daniel Radcliffe addressed the unhinged kiss between him and Emma Watson in Deathly Hallows Part 1. Reflecting upon the kiss he shared with Watson, the actor simply called out his co-star for going rough on him. Expecting it to be soft and gentle, Radcliffe noted how his smooch with Watson was vigorous.
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
“I always thought it was going to be this soft sensual sort of moment, and suddenly there was this vigorous kissing happening to me… She is a bit of an animal. But then, I’m not complaining. There are tens of thousands of men that would cut off limbs to be in that position.”
It turns out, Emma Watson had her reasons to be so aggressive with the kiss. During an interview with JoBlo, the actress got candid about how the kiss made her extremely uncomfortable, given that she grew up on the Harry Potter set with Radcliffe and she thought of him as a brother. Further, she addressed that it wasn’t just a kiss, but there was also nudity and silver paint, that made her even more agitated.
Emma Watson as Hermione Granger
“I guess I was just so worried about it coming across as awkward as I felt it was inside that I just wanted to make it as real as I could. So I guess I just went for it… It was the weirdest thing ever, and they only told us about the silver body paint the day before. They were like, ‘Oh, and P.S., we hope you don’t mind but we’d like you both to be topless and covered in silver paint.’ I was like, ‘Okay,’ if it wasn’t weird enough before.”
So it appears that while Daniel Radcliffe had his reasons for calling out his kiss with Emma Watson, even the actress had her reasons for being awkward and vigorous.
