Emma Watson starred as Hermoine Granger and became one of the most famous actresses all over the world. The Harry Potter franchise continues to be one of the most fan-followed and loved ones, and its popularity for sure would not be diminishing any time soon.
Even though the actress earned her break-out role of Sam in Stephen Chbosky‘s Perks of Being a Wallflower due to her Harry Potter role (via Lamplight), she really wanted to break away from the character. And a minor stunt scene in the movie helped her achieve that.
The scene in question is when Sam, her character, stands at the back of a pickup truck as they drive through a tunnel. However, it was also a scene where the production wanted to bring in a stand-in, a suggestion Watson absolutely refused as she revealed in an interview with Daybreak (via Contact Music).
“It was so amazing. It was really funny, the stunt team on the film really didn’t want to let me do it. It was meant to be a stunt girl but I was like, ‘You can’t not let me have that moment!'”
And it was a deeply emotional moment for her, feeling as if she truly graduated from Hogwarts.

The whole scene of driving through a tunnel at night was an experience Emma Watson may never be able to forget. In the interview with Daybreak, she remarked how meaningful it was for her.
“It was weirdly emotional. It really felt like… metaphorically like I was coming through something. It was cool.”
In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Watson compared the experience to finally graduating from Hogwarts and her popular role,
“I started as Emma with some Hermione still left in my system. I went through the tunnel and I came out ready to start something new.”
She even remarked that starring in the movie helped her feel how school would have felt like, an experience she missed out on due to her commitments to Harry Potter.
Perks of Being a Wallflower can be rented on Amazon Prime.
