Chloë Grace Moretz has appeared in the first two Kick-Ass movies, but the question now is whether she will appear in the third. Some of Moretz's most notable works in recent years include 2014's The Equalizer, 2018's Suspiria, and the 2022 Amazon series The Peripheral. While excelling in action-based roles such as Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass, Moretz has proven to be a versatile actor across multiple genres.
While Kick-Ass 3 has been confirmed, there has been much speculation about what the franchise reboot will actually look like in this day and age. Moretz's Hit-Girl was one of the stand-out characters in both Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2, which has created a lot of buzz about the potential for the actor to return to her fan-favorite role. With original director Matthew Vaughn at the helm of the upcoming Kick-Ass 3, the iconic action comedy franchise appears to be in solid hands regardless of the ultimate casting determinations.
Hit-Girl & Other Original Kick-Ass Characters Will Not Be In The Reboot
Vaughn himself has stated that no original characters for the first two Kick-Ass films will return in his upcoming reboot, including Chloë Grace Moretz's Hit-Girl. According to Vaughn's recent statements at New York's Comic-Con event, the director has confirmed that his Kick-Ass 3 will be heading in a new direction with not only a completely different cast but also a totally different group of core characters.
In the same spirit as the original Kick-Ass movies, Vaughn intends to alter the current perception of superhero movies by going back to the drawing board and creating a brand-new ensemble. This means that other well-known characters from the first two Kick-Ass films will also not make appearances, including Christopher Mintz-Plasse's Red Mist. Given that the film will still be an official part of the Kick-Ass franchise, it's likely that the core Kick-Ass character will be recast or referenced in some meaningful way.
How Chloë Grace Moretz Could Still Return As Hit-Girl
Although Moretz will not return as Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass 3, Vaughn has also stated that he is open to exploring future options with the character after the reboot releases. If Kick-Ass 3 proves to be a success, it could set a foundation for a more extended universe within the Kick-Ass franchise that could re-establish Moretz in a rendition of an older Hit-Girl. While these ideas remain purely speculative as of the time of writing, a reprise from Moretz as Hit-Girl might also inspire former co-stars Nicolas Cage and Aaron-Taylor Johnson to follow suit. As for Kick-Ass 3, however, Moretz will certainly not be a central part of it.
