“You can’t have 2 minutes of me screaming”: Emma Watson’s Most Disturbing Harry Potter Scene Made Her Co-stars Feel Awful

The eight Harry Potter movies featured a ton of memorable moments for Emma Watson, who currently has over 74 million Instagram followers. The Beauty and the Beast actress, 33, had the chance to portray a variety of emotions while playing Hermione Granger, which she did beautifully.

However, some scenes had a profound effect on the young actors behind the magical veneer of the wizarding world. As the series progressed, the fight against Voldemort became more intense and brutal. All of that culminated in a particularly gory scene involving Hermione that left her deeply affected. Even her co-stars were upset by this disturbing Harry Potter scene.

The first part of the chapter ended with Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), one of the greatest Harry Potter villains, torturing Hermione in a horrific manner.

This Emma Watson’s Harry Potter Scene Was ‘Disturbing for the Crew’

The director of the final four Harry Potter films, David Yates, pushed Emma Watson and Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) to give outstanding performances. According to Watson, if they had used every moment of what happened on set, the already disturbing scene could have been even grislier and more difficult to watch.

In an interview clip released by Warner Bros (via LiveAbout), the MTV Movie Awards-winning actress said:

“I did one take and David let the camera roll for like two minutes and just left me there screaming. When I looked at the edit, I was like ‘wow’. I mean, fair enough, you can’t have two minutes of me screaming. But I was like: ‘I did that a lot longer than was actually shown’.”

Despite admitting that “it was not a fun day” when she shot the tense sequence, Watson expressed some pity for those who had to watch it all unfold in real time:

“I think it was quite disturbing for the crew, which I was pleased about obviously, because it showed I was doing a good job.”

According to The Bling Ring actress, Carter was also a little shaken by the scene, and while they were filming, they came up with the idea for Lestrange to write “mudblood” on Hermione’s arm.

Emma Watson Almost Considered Quitting Playing Hermione Granger?

Without Emma Watson‘s iconic Hermione Granger performance, it is impossible to imagine the Harry Potter movies. However, the second half of the series almost underwent a dramatic rewrite when she contemplated leaving. In Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts (via Variety), in which the majority of the cast reunited to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the film series, Watson and her castmates spoke about their concerns in detail.

The fifth film’s director, David Yates, 60, said:

“When I started, one thing that [the producer] and the studio spoke to me about was Emma is not sure she wants to come back and do another Potter.”

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, said of her co-star that people would never forget what she did or how elegantly she handled it:

“Dan [Radcliffe] and Rupert [Grint], they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.”

Meanwhile, Watson remarked:

“I did find a diary entry that was kind of like, hmmm. I could see that, at times, I was lonely. I think I was scared. I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point when you were like, ‘This is kind of forever now.’”

Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley said later:

“I would say I had kind of similar feelings to Emma. Kind of contemplating what life would be like if I called it a day, but we never really spoke about it. I guess we were just kind of going through it at our own pace. We were kind of in the moment. At the time, it just didn’t really occur to us that we were all kind of having similar feelings.”
